Neurogenetics was initially centered on childhood metabolic illnesses, after which it branched out to chromosomal mapping of inherited ailments due to defects in unknown proteins. This was made attainable by the appearance of a lot of genetic markers that might be used for genetic linkage analysis, which is a powerful device to detect the chromosomal location of illness genes. The mutant allele is dominant to the wild-type alleles, and the illness phenotype is seen in heterozygotes.
